This past Sunday the Mixtapes sang with Semi-Toned, an all-male a capella group from the University of Exeter in England. We sang with them in Washington Square Park, which was our first park sing of the year. It was so much fun! We performed a few songs from last semester, and then we sang "Barton Hollow" for the first time. We just recently learned it and decided that we knew it well enough to perform it for an audience and it sounded amazing!! I can't wait to perform it at our concert on May 2.
(Speaking of our concert, I have my first ever solo in the Mixtapes! I'm singing Pink's part in "Lady Marmalade" from Moulin Rouge).
After we sang, Semi-Toned performed a few songs. They're incredible! Some of the Tapes and I went and watched their mini concert on Friday night with APC Rhythm, one of the other coed groups on campus. They did all the same songs at the park sing but it was still fun to watch, and we got a huge crowd for both groups! Very exciting stuff.
Afterwards we took them to BBQ, a really yummy barbecue restaurant that we took the Scottish group to, the Alleycats. I guess that's become our spot to take visiting groups! It was also my suggestion (hehe).
After dinner they had to leave because they were going uptown to Columbia to sing with one of the groups there. But it was definitely a lot of fun, and so great to meet these guys. This past semester and a half of being in the Mixtapes has introduced me to so many new a capella people and has given me so many new friends, both in New York and abroad. I still keep in touch with some of the Scottish a capella peeps and I definitely hope to keep in touch with our new British friends.
